LC3 Trasporti installs LIQAL BTU System in Italy
Dover Fueling Solutions has successfully installed a LIQAL Boil-off Gas Treatment Unit (BTU) for LC3 Transporti – the first refuelling station in Italy that combines both LNG and nitrogen to provide 100% bio-LNG.
The plant is located in Piacenza and the challenge was to improve the LNG refuelling performance on site and efficiently control the LNG fuel station’s boil off gas (BOG) inside the storage tank.
To progress the LNG station, there were several challenges LC3 wanted to address.
These included high pressure in the LNG tank due to BOG, ineffective heat management of LNG on site, challenges with refuelling of LNG trucks due to high tank pressure.
In addition, LC3 wanted to increase the volume of Bio-LNG delivered from the station.
Since the installation, the tank pressure is now under control and at low total cost of ownership (TCO), resulting in smooth and efficient truck refuelling operations on site.
Joost Jansen, business development manager LIQAL I DFS, said: “LC3 is the first Italian company gaining experience with our automated and TCO-effective BTU system that re-liquefies the boil-off gas at its LNG refuelling station.”
Michele Ambrogi, president of LC3 Trasporti, added: “We have eliminated he potential risk of direct methane emissions into the atmosphere through this ground-breaking solution implemented at our LNG and bio-LNG refuelling station in Piacenza.”
