Smith & Loveless launches CST Model FS horizontal drum fine screen for industrial water applications

Smith & Loveless Inc. has introduced the CST Screening Systems Model FS, a fully horizontal in channel drum fine screen designed to enhance solids separation, operator safety and maintenance efficiency across municipal and industrial wastewater facilities in North and South America.
The Model FS brings proven Australasian technology to the Western Hemisphere, offering a smart alternative to conventional inclined drum and band screens. Unlike traditional designs, the CST FS screen operates in a fully horizontal configuration with no submerged chains or sprockets, enabling operators to inspect and service the unit from the platform rather than entering the channel.
This significantly reduces maintenance complexity and improves safety in fluid handling environments.
Incoming flow enters a semi submerged drum positioned directly in the channel. A rear plate redirects wastewater radially through the mesh, supporting effective solids capture and a natural self cleaning action. Moderate pressure spray nozzles provide additional washing, while the horizontal layout lowers operating depth, reducing average screen velocities and helping minimise head loss during peak flows.
Captured solids are collected in an internal hopper and conveyed to an integral shaftless lifting and dewatering screw. Engineered to resist blockage from fibrous material, the screw washes, dewaters and compacts screenings, reducing disposal volumes. Where required, lifting and handling can be located outside the channel to provide additional washing and dewatering options.
Engineers can specify wedge wire drums (0.25–10 mm) for primary screening or perforated plate drums (2–10 mm) for fine pre MBR applications. Units are available in 304 or 316 stainless steel, with drum diameters from 600 to 2,500 mm and installation options for concrete or stainless steel channels.
Suitable for municipal headworks, pre MBR protection and industrial process streams, the CST Model FS supports more reliable downstream treatment, reduced operational risk and improved solids management across fluid handling operations.
CST Screening Systems are now available for projects throughout the Americas.
