Petronas set to double methanol production with new petrochem plant

A new methanol plant is set to almost double Petronas Chemical Group’s current production in Malaysia.
This new facility in Bintulu, Sarawak, whose construction will be completed in March, will add 1.75 million tons of methanol to the 2.4 million tons currently produced annually by the group, the fourth largest in the world.
To carry out the onshore heavy transport, installation of modules, jacking operations and heavy lifting of modules, Samsung Engineering has called on the joint work of Harbour-Link and Sarens to take advantage of their international experience in the development of similar projects.
The new Sarawak Petchem Methanol Project will represent an important step forward in the methanol production capacity of Petronas Chemical Group.
