New technology: Laser level measurement for harsh environments
ABB has bolstered its level measurement portfolio with the addition of the LLT100 laser level transmitter. According to a statement from the Swedish-Swiss corporation, the LLT100 can “measure the level of any material, solid or liquid, in any condition”.
The new product has been specifically designed for industrial applications and harsh environments. It can precisely measure any solid or liquid surface, including clear liquids from 40° to +60°C (–40 to +140°F), or up to 280°C (535°F) with a cooling tube.
ABB’s LLT100 offers a resolution of 5mm, an accuracy of ±20 mm and an eye-safe, Class 1 laser beam with a divergence of less than 0.35°m meaning it can be used in low visibility conditions. Its range spans from 0.5 to 30m for liquids, 0.5 to 100m for solids and 0.5m to 200m for positioning applications with a reflective target.
Encased in an IP67/NEMA 4X explosion proof class 1/division 1 (zone 1) enclosure, the new laser level transmitter can be used in applications including mining, aggregates, oil and gas, chemicals, food and beverages, power, pulp and paper, pharmaceuticals and water and wastewater.
The LLT100’s standard enclosure material is powder-coated aluminium, although 316L stainless steel is also an option. Combined with a choice of a range of flange fittings or Tri-Clover 3-A, the LLT100 is suitable for food production applications or others where a high standard of hygiene is demanded.
For precision aiming of the device’s laser bean, a rotating bracket and swivel flange option are available. A laser pointer tool, meanwhile, is used to provide a visual reference when aligning the LLT100.
