Cheniere moves forward with Train 3 at Corpus Christi liquefaction project

Cheniere Energy’s has committed to the development of a third LNG liquefaction train at its Corpus Christi liquefaction project (CCL project). It was announced on 22 May that the company’s board of directors has made a positive Final Investment Decision (FID) on the facility. Cheniere now plans to issue a full notice to proceed to Bechtel Oil, Gas and Chemicals to continue construction on the facility, which began in late 2017 under a limited notice.

“Moving forward with the construction of Train 3 at Corpus Christi reinforces our position as the leader in US LNG,” said Jack Fusco, Cheniere’s president and chief executive. “We continue to see significant tailwinds in the global LNG market and look forward to delivering additional growth and value to shareholders.”

The CCL project is a three train liquid natural gas liquefaction project under construction near Corpus Christi, Texas. Each train is expected to have a nominal production capacity of approximately 4.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG. Production capacity for the first two trains have been fully contracted, with the third partially contracted. The Corpus Christi terminal is designed for five liquefaction trains, with expected aggregate nominal production capacity of up to 22.5mtpa.

Cheniere Energy is also owns and operates the Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Louisiana. According to the US’ Energy Information Agency, all American LNG exports in 2017originated from the Sabine Pass terminal.
