Warman pumps help with cost savings at Mexican site

The polymetallic mine Minera Tizapa approached Weir Minerals after competitor pumps used for tailings dam duty experienced issues including severe wear.
Furthermore, due to not being properly secured, the pumps in the Mexico State would often become lost in the dam.
After several site visits, the Weir Minerals team suggested the installation of a Warman SHW submersible pump on a floating pontoon.
The SHW submersible pump was selected especially for this application due to its high capacity and performance processing high concentration solids. In addition the octagonal pontoon was perfect to complete the solution.
With the ability to process high concentration solids and an array of innovative features, Minera Tizapa purchased two SHW pumps.
As by this point the competitor pumps had failed, the local Weir Minerals team had a tight four-week deadline to manufacture and deliver the pumps to prevent additional downtime at the site.
Since the installation of the pumps, there has been no maintenance shutdowns and the customer is saving approximately US $120,000 (€106,000) annually. The success of this project has been due to the analysis of engineers and the collaboration between the two businesses to identify and implement a safe and suitable solution.
