Technip Energies secures dual FEED awards for major refinery upgrade

news item image
Technip Energies has been awarded two Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contracts by Société Gabonaise de Raffinage (SOGARA) for a major modernisation and expansion of the Port Gentil refinery in Gabon.
The awards cover both the optimisation of the existing facility and the development of a new Hydrocracker Complex, marking a significant step in Gabon’s efforts to upgrade its refining capabilities.
The first FEED package focuses on debottlenecking the current refinery. This includes upgrades to key process units, the addition of a new kerosene sweetening unit and the construction of four new storage facilities. Technip Energies will also ensure full integration between existing and new systems to improve overall efficiency.
The second contract covers the design of a modular Hydrocracker Complex aimed at substantially increasing refining capacity. The scope includes a new marine jetty and offloading facility, as well as hydrogen production enabled by Technip Energies’ proprietary Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) technology.
Both projects are designed to meet stringent Africa 5 fuel quality standards, which impose tight limits on sulphur content in transport fuels. This is expected to reduce emissions, improve local air quality and support Gabon’s broader economic development through job creation and industrial growth.
Technip Energies described the dual award as a strong endorsement of its expertise in both brownfield optimisation and complex greenfield project delivery, reinforcing its long term commitment to modernising Africa’s refining infrastructure.
