Royal seal of approval at petrochemical site

SABIC, a global leader in the chemical industry, welcomed Queen Máxima of the Netherlands to its Plastic Energy advanced recycling unit and the SABIC-owned hydrotreater unit.
The visit formed part of a broader working visit of the Queen to the Chemelot industrial site in Geleen, the Netherlands, to understand the efforts taking place on site in the field of circularity and sustainability.
The advanced recycling unit will significantly up scale production of SABIC's certified circular polymers from advanced recycling of used and mixed plastics.
The Queen was received by SABIC leaders and was given a technical tour of the SABIC and Plastic Energy advanced recycling unit and the SABIC-owned hydrotreater unit.
Abdulrahman Al-Fageeh CEO of SABIC, said: “We were honoured to be able to demonstrate to Her Majesty SABIC's commitment to driving a circular economy for plastics by touring our new advanced recycling unit, which is in the final stages of construction.
“By using advanced recycling processes, we are able to keep valuable, used plastic in the material stream, to use as a new feedstock to produce our circular polymers and offer more sustainable solutions to our customers.”
