Mueller Systems and Ferguson Waterworks have announced a new project for Newport News’ water metering system.
The project will be an upgrade to the Newport News metering system and will include smart water technology.
Newport News Waterworks, the second largest water utility in Virginia with nearly 130,000 customers, has signed an agreement to install the Mueller Mi.Net Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system throughout the city including the largest deployment of Remote Disconnect Meters (RDM) in the US.
The system will leverage the Sentryx water intelligence platform which provides data insights into a water utilities’ distribution system. Ferguson and Mueller will collaborate to deliver the project over the next four years.
“We are excited to partner with Newport News and Ferguson to provide a comprehensive smart water solution,” said John DeYarman, vice president and general manager of Mueller Systems. “The Sentryx software platform along with our field-proven RDMs will provide enhanced customer service and operational efficiencies in metering with the capability to generate insights across the water distribution system in the future for leak detection, pressure monitoring and water quality.”
Brandon Mathews, business development manager for Ferguson's Meter & Automation Group, added: “It is an honor to partner with Newport News Waterworks and Mueller Systems in delivering a smart water solution in our community.
“As one of the nation’s largest waterworks companies, Ferguson Waterworks offers contractors and municipalities a variety of products and services.
“Mueller Systems offers a smart water platform that will service the Newport News area for years to come as they evolve and grow within a dynamic coastal Virginia region. Our close partnership with Newport News Waterworks and Mueller Systems throughout this project, as well as our aligned vision and commitment to innovation, will further strengthen our position as a premier provider of smart water technology.”
