Exploding natural gas pipeline causes fire

According to Daily News, an explosion on a natural gas pipeline led to a fire in the Marmara province of Sakarya yesterday.

Daily News reports that the explosion took place on the main distribution line of the Bozüyük-Adapazarı pipeline in the early morning. The explosion then caused a fire in the Değirmendere neighbourhood.

The Sakarya Governor’s office said that the gas flow on the pipeline had been reduced in an attempt to contain the fire. The Governor’s office said that the fire had been completely extinguished and that natural gas squads, fire department and security officials had taken necessary precautions. They added that has there been no reports of any casualties or damage, states the Daily News.

Sakarya Governor, Ahmet Hamdi Nayir said, “There were reports on the risk of a landslide in the area before. An examination was initiated due to the reports. There are no settlements close to the area.”
