Companies to collaborate on development of new hybrid flexible pipe

TechnipFMC said 23 March that it has signed onto a ‘strategic collaboration agreement’ with Magma Global to develop a new hybrid flexible pipe (HFP) for offshore applications.

The HFP is meant to provide enhanced strength and endurance while reducing weight and cost. As part of the agreement, TechnipFMC is acquiring a minority stake in Magma Global.

Martin Jones, Magma Global CEO, said that the project was “a logical step for the increased adoption of carbon composites in full field developments, paving the way towards Magma’s long-term vision of an all composite subsea infrastructure from the seabed to the surface.” The company currently offers the ‘m-pipe’ for subsea production systems. Made of carbon composite, Magma says the pipe offers a range of benefits, including increased cost-effectiveness and reliability.

TechnipFMC was formed in 2017 following the merger of FMC Technologies and Technip. A UK-based company, it employs over 37,000 people across 48 countries and is listed on both the New York and Euronext Paris stock exchanges.

On 22 March TechnipFMC announced that a CHS-owned hydrogen plant it supplied steam reforming technology and engineering, procurement and construction services was fully operational. The company was contracted for the project in 2015; the plant can refine 40 million cubic feet (1.1 million cubic metres) of hydrogen per day.
