Sealless pumps find new use in chemical weapons disposal for military

Sundyne, a leading manufacturer of highly reliable and efficient centrifugal pumps and compressors for use in the oil and gas, petrochemical, chemical, power generation and water processing industries, recently won a contract to provide pumps to the US Military.

The sealless, non-metallic magnetic drive pumps will be used in the military's mobile Explosive Destruction System (EDS) programme. With the current drive to disarm highly toxic chemical weapons arsenals around the world, these EDS units are taking on an increasingly important role in disposal operations.

Built to ASME / ANSI standards for pumps used in chemical and hydrocarbon processing, the pumps offer a fluid handling solution for applications involving dangerous chemicals. The pumps are compact, do not leak and feature an elastomer-lined interior designed to withstand the caustic nature of chemical agents.

The US Military's EDS unit has been used in the destruction of numerous chemical armaments in the US since their initial implementation in 2001.
