Pipeline valves set ablaze, evacuations ensue

San Francisco news outlet, SFGate, reported that a utility house that contains valves for a Chevron, US-based gas supplier, pipeline that runs through the San Francisco area caught fire in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania after a power line structure fell onto it.

Described by the report as a ’12-inch, high pressure natural gas’ pipeline, Chevron released a statement detailing how the firm immediately shut down the pipe network once the fire had been reported. 

Despite this, a spokesperson from the local fire department, Steve Hill, told SFGate that the threat of an explosion hadn’t been mitigated and as such, evacuation orders were to be sent out to any residents of the local area to stay away overnight.

According to the report, no injuries have occurred.
