Emerson protection system receives SIL1 safety-critical rating

Emerson Process Management’s CSI 6500 machinery health monitor has received IEC 61508:2010, Safety Integration Level (SIL) 1 certification.

The monitor is certified suitable for use in delivering reliable protection monitoring in such environments as steam and gas turbines in power plants, critical refinery assets, nuclear industry critical assets, and other safety-critical applications.

The CSI 6500 provides insight into the health of critical assets with both protection and prediction in a single chassis.

The device integrates into an overall safety instrumented system (SIS) to provide operators information in a format they are used to seeing on a standard distributed control graphics screen.
