Amarinth invests £1 million in sulphur pumps for oil and gas industry

Centrifugal pump manufacturer Amarinth has announced an investment of over £1 million (€1.15 million) into designing a low-maintenance range of API 610 VS4 vertical sulphur pumps for the oil and gas industry.

The company’s API 610 VS4 pump meets the requirements for pumping molten sulphur. It was designed following detailed study of existing sulphur pumps to highlight problem areas.

When using traditional sulphur pumps, oil and gas industry users report high incidents of bearing failures, shaft problems and having to run shorter maintenance periods to minimise failures, resulting in increased downtime for plants.

Amarinth’s pump design features a new arrangement for the shaft bearings and lubrication film, a redesigned jacket to maintain the temperature of the molten sulphur, a new impeller design optimised for high efficiency, a modular column design that enables quick production of bespoke pump lengths, as well as improved access to help with regular maintenance.
