A lighter touch for LNG transfer

A jettyless systemfor moving LNG fromship to shore (and viceversa) can increaseoperational flexibility, decrease CAPEX andreduce impacts on theenvironment. FluidHandling spoke withVincent Lagarrigue, director of TrelleborgOil & Marine, and JamesHermary, project leaderof Development LNGat the company, aboutTrelleborg’s jettylesstransfer project.

In October 2017, Trelleborg workedin conjunction with Connect LNGand the Spanish gas company GasNatural Fenosa to test the UniversalTransfer System (UTS) in the port ofHerøya, Norway. According to VincentLagarrigue, this was the first time liquidnatural gas (LNG) had been offloadedwith a floating flexible hose system.

The UTS is designed to operate withno modifications on the part of the LNGcarrier and removes the need for bulkier, heavier and more expensive jetty-basedtransfer infrastructure. For its part, Trelleborgcontributed its Cryoline hoses and shipshorelink technology to the project.
