Sulzer launches service to cut pump energy and carbon for oil & gas operators

The service is built around four core steps: an initial audit using Sulzer’s proprietary “PumpWise” calculator, a tailored retrofit proposal, implementation via Sulzer’s retrofit teams (which have already delivered over 4,000 projects globally), and an ongoing monitoring/ performance-agreement phase.
Sulzer emphasises that even small efficiency gains matter: it cites a case in Spain where five pumps were re-rated from 72% to 83% efficiency, delivering €1 million in savings and reducing 2,300 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
The service combines digital analytics, machine-learning tools (via its “Blue Box” platform) and engineered retrofits (such as hydraulic re-rates, coatings, wear-clearance optimisation) to deliver measurable efficiency, reliability and carbon-reduction improvements.
Sulzer positions this offering as a practical route for operators to reduce operating cost, improve asset reliability and meet decarbonisation targets — without wholesale replacement of pump fleets.
The significance for the fluid-handling industry is that pump systems are no longer passive assets; rather, they become instrumented, data-driven platforms where service, retrofit and digital analysis deliver ROI and sustainability benefits.
For oil & gas (and other heavy fluid-handling applications including petrochemicals and water injection) this signals a shift from simply specifying new pumps to adopting life-cycle-optimised pump fleets and smart monitoring regimes.
