Rising demand for clean water fuels growth in global magnetic flowmeter market
The report, The World Market for Magnetic Flowmeters, 8th Edition, found that the market was valued at $2.1 billion (€1.84 billion) in 2025 and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.9% through 2030, exceeding $2.6 billion (€2.28 billion) by the end of the decade.
Flow Research identified the water and wastewater sector as the largest market for magnetic flowmeters globally, ahead of the food and beverage and chemical industries.
Growing populations, climate change, urbanisation and industrial demand are placing increasing pressure on water resources, prompting significant investment in drinking water systems, wastewater treatment facilities, water reuse projects and irrigation infrastructure.
Magnetic flowmeters are widely used in these applications because they provide highly accurate measurement of conductive liquids, require minimal maintenance and can reliably handle dirty water, sludge and other challenging media.
The study also highlights ageing infrastructure as a major growth driver, particularly across North America, Europe and Japan. Many municipal water systems built between the 1960s and 1990s are now undergoing replacement and modernisation programmes, creating strong demand for advanced digital flow measurement technologies.
According to Dr Jesse Yoder, President of Flow Research: “Magnetic flowmeters are highly accurate, do not create pressure drop, and can be used for custody transfer applications. Magnetic flowmeters do not have moving parts and provide a highly stable measurement. In addition, advanced diagnostics are making magmeters both more intelligent and more reliable. All these advantages, along with growing market demand, should enable magnetic flowmeters to retain their dominance in the process industries in the foreseeable future.”
The report also notes growing adoption of wireless, battery-powered and two-wire magnetic flowmeter technologies, further supporting market expansion.
