Pumping corrosive substances safely with NETZSCH peristaltic pumps

Spanish filling and packaging specialist Maquienvas was dissatisfied with electromagnetic and mass flow meters used for dosing different fertilisers, particularly due to corrosion, leakage risks and inconsistent flow rates. Seeking a more reliable solution, the company turned to NETZSCH, who recommended PERIPRO® peristaltic pumps for handling abrasive, corrosive and organic fluids.

Maquienvas, based in Valencia, has over 40 years’ experience supplying machinery for challenging filling applications. The fertilisers they handle contain aggressive ingredients such as potassium hydroxide and phosphoric acid, as well as organic particles up to 1 mm in size. These conditions caused rapid wear to conventional flow-meter systems and demanded frequent component replacement, resulting in high maintenance costs.

In 2023, the company installed two PERIPRO® C10/2.7 hose pumps. “They are reliable, compact and easy to install, while allowing precise flow control regardless of the fluid’s corrosive or organic nature,” explained Borja Tarin, Area Sales Manager at NETZSCH.

PERIPRO® pumps operate by compressing and releasing a flexible hose with rotating rollers, producing a sealed, continuous flow. This ensures accurate dosing, even with particle-laden fluids. Maquienvas runs the pumps at 37 rpm and 0.5 bar, achieving a stable flow rate of 1,941 l/h—well within the model’s capacity of up to 3,700 l/h at 10 bar.

Since only the EPDM hose contacts the product, the risk of corrosion and contamination is minimised; the hose has not required replacement since installation. With no mechanical seals or valves, maintenance is straightforward and lubricant use is low.

Impressed with the performance and NETZSCH’s technical support, Maquienvas has already ordered identical pumps for three additional systems.
