UK oil refinery faces strike action

ExxonMobil have released a statement about the strike action taking place at the Fawley oil refinery in the UK.
In the statement, the oil and gas company said that the action involved trade union members who were employed by contracting companies onsite.
An ExxonMobil spokesperson said: “This action involves trade union members employed by contracting companies operating onsite. Operations at Fawley are unaffected and we do not anticipate any impact on fuel supplies to customers.
“Industrial action is not in anyone’s interest, and we ask both the trade unions and employers to work together to reach a resolution to this dispute.”
GMB members have begun a two-week strike over pay that started on November 21.
Almost 100 members of the union, boilermakers, welders, pipefitters, mechanical fitters and scaffolders are taking part in the strike.
ExxonMobil has stressed that supplies have not been affected by the industrial action.
There was hope of a last-minute deal to prevent industrial action from beginning, but nothing could be agreed.
Bryan Hulley, a GMB organiser, said last week: “Quite simply the employers are solely responsible for this walk out.
“Despite the promises that they will make an offer to our members, we are yet to get a formal offer on the table.”
