John Crane powers landmark carbon capture project with advanced sealing technology

news item image

John Crane is playing a key role in one of the UK’s most significant carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects by providing its state-of-the-art dry gas sealing technology for high-performance CO₂ compression.
As part of the initiative, the company will supply six Type 28XP Dry Gas Seals for centrifugal compressors at a new CO₂ compression facility in North Wales.
These compressors form a vital link in the infrastructure that will transport and permanently store carbon dioxide from industrial plants across North West England and North Wales.
Once operational, the CCS facility will serve as a cornerstone of the UK’s energy transition. Acting as a central hub, it will enable the safe transport of captured CO₂ for storage in depleted offshore fields beneath the seabed.
“This project underscores John Crane’s dedication to supporting the energy transition with reliable engineering solutions,” said Philippe Lambert, vice-president, sales and aftermarket at John Crane.
“We are proud to contribute our proven sealing technologies to this milestone development, helping drive industrial decarbonisation in the UK and beyond.”
