European EPC Contractor MT Group has awarded IMI a contract to supply a 3MW PEM electrolyser to the Vilnius Green Hydrogen Production Facility project in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Vilnius District Heating Company is developing the facility in partnership with the city’s municipal administration unit, with the goal of decarbonising district heating through locally produced green hydrogen.

The project is being implemented under the EU-backed Green Hydrogen Programme and is part of a national strategy to reduce CO₂ emissions in the heating sector by integrating renewables and hydrogen technologies.

This contract marks the continuation of a successful partnership, with MT Group previously selecting IMI for its green hydrogen production plant in Klaipėda – a flagship project developed by Klaipėda State Seaport Authority on Lithuania’s Baltic coast, supplying green hydrogen for vessels, port equipment and private transportation.

Giuseppe Buscemi, President EMEA for Process Automation at IMI, said: “Lithuania is setting an example by advancing clean energy, and we are proud to support this green hydrogen leadership. Delivering the PEM electrolyser for Vilnius builds on our strong partnership with MT Group and further strengthens our long-term commitment to supporting the country’s energy transition.”

The award agreement was concluded during a high-level visit to IMI’s facility in Cagliari, Italy.

“This award represents another milestone in the energy transition for Vilnius. By choosing a trusted partner like IMI, we ensure delivery of world-class PEM technology to support Lithuania’s net-zero ambitions,” said Mindaugas Zakaras, CEO of MT Group.

Delivery of the equipment is scheduled for Q4 2025, with commissioning planned in 2026.
