Grundfos solar pumps strengthen water security for remote Australian farm

news item image
Grundfos has delivered a solar powered pumping solution to help safeguard water security at a remote farm and tourism business in Australia’s Northern Territory.
The installation has significantly improved water reliability while reducing fuel use and emissions.
Located around 200 kilometres north of Alice Springs, Athelle Outback Hideaway operates in an extremely arid environment where temperatures regularly exceed 40°C and rainfall is low. The site previously relied on diesel generators, which were costly, inefficient and vulnerable to failure in such a remote location.
The new system features six Grundfos SPE solar submersible pumps, designed specifically for off grid operation in harsh conditions. The pumps adjust their performance in response to available sunlight, enabling more consistent irrigation throughout the day and improving overall system reliability
According to published reports, the solar powered solution has enabled the farm to operate more sustainably, supporting hay production for Northern Australia’s beef industry while also supplying water to on site orchards.
The project was delivered in collaboration with the Grundfos Dealer Network, including local specialists with knowledge of the region’s unique water challenges.
