Digester mixing system installed at €59 million recycling facility
By using this mixing system, the Huddersfield Energy and Recycling Facility ensures that total gas production can reach its anticipated 22,192 normal cubic metres (Nm3) per day. Two CHP engines produce peak electrical output of 2,390 kWh and a thermal output of 2,404 kWh.
Designed, constructed and commissioned by J Murphy & Sons, the Huddersfield facility is an important part of Yorkshire Water’s long-term bioresources strategy.
Externally mounted on each of the two 7,306 m3 concrete digesters, which contain thickened sewage sludge of up to 8% dry solids, the mixing system simplifies future servicing, because there are no moving parts inside the tanks. Paired with the Landia chopper pump, the mixing system is low on energy consumption and helps to reduce health and safety issues.
“Huddersfield Energy and Recycling Facility shows the quality of the process engineering expertise that we can deliver for complex water and wastewater design and construction,” said John Smith, project director for J Murphy & Sons.
“We understand that a good digester mixing system is very important to the success of an AD plant, so we are pleased to see that our decision to choose Landia is paying benefits.” peak electrical output of 2390 kWh and a thermal output of 2404 kWh.
