Alleima is expanding its steam generator tubing (SGT) facilities in Sandviken, Sweden.
The factory will be fully open in three years’ time and create approximately 90 jobs.
The expansion, which includes the refurbishment and reopening of one of Alleima’s SGT facilities, will increase capacity and strengthen its capability to seize growth opportunities, while maintaining its leading position to be at the frontier supplier for Small Modular Reactor (SMR) tubing.
“This is a unique opportunity to increase our capacity relatively quickly and meet the demand from our customers.
“We have recently delivered the first commercial order for steam generator tubes for SMRs, and we expect this technology to grow as the need for fossil free energy continues to increase. Through this facility, we will be able to serve both conventional nuclear power plants and emerging technologies like SMR,” said Göran Björkman, president and CEO.
"We are pleased that we now invest in increasing capacity in Sandviken. This is a long-term strategic investment and proof that Alleima has significant experience, great knowledge and proven products and solutions, that can meet the growing demand in the nuclear industry,” says Carl von Schantz, President Tube division.
Alleima has delivered well over 40 million meters of steam generator tubes for more than 120 reactors worldwide.
The facility that will now be reopened was mothballed when a new factory was inaugurated in 2012.
