Alfa Laval and ArianeGroup collaborate on cryogenic trailer pump for liquid hydrogen

news item image
Alfa Laval announced it had signed a co-development agreement with ArianeGroup to design and industrialise a dedicated liquid hydrogen trailer pump aimed at improving the transfer of liquid hydrogen for mobility applications.
The partnership, initiated at the Hyvolution trade show, targets a critical gap in current hydrogen logistics: efficient, safe and reliable cryogenic pumping from production sites to distribution hubs and refuelling stations.
Operating under extreme cryogenic conditions, this purpose-built pump system is expected to reduce hydrogen losses during unloading and improve overall process efficiency — benefits important to both low-carbon energy supply chains and fluid-handling operations in industrial hydrogen environments.
By combining Alfa Laval’s expertise in fluid handling and cryogenic systems with ArianeGroup’s space-proven liquid hydrogen technology, the project aims to deliver a solution capable of meeting stringent industrial safety, reliability and compactness requirements.
The announcement underscores evolving fluid-handling needs as energy sectors adapt to hydrogen-based mobility and storage solutions.
