AFT upgrades pipe simulation software (updated)

While the company says that the new version includes enhanced file integration and analysis to prevent cavitation and performance issues, the product’s release has been delayed.

Applied Flow Technology (AFT) has delayed the release of it upgraded pipe system simulator, Fathom 10. The software is designed to calculate pressure drop and flow distribution in liquid and low velocity gas piping and ducting systems. It was created to help engineers understand their piping system and predict how pipes, valves, pumps and other components interact with each other.

According to AFT president Trey Walters the upgrade enhances Fathom’s file integration with the inclusion of  Excel, GIS Shapefiles, CAESAR II, EPANet, ROHR2, AutoCAD Plant 3D, SmartPlant, PDS and CADWorx. The software also utilises 2D or isometric pipe model viewing.

“These factors add a level of ability to not only efficiently model and analyse a system, but to present it to others in a cohesive fashion,” Walters said in a statement.

AFT says that the Fathom 10 can also automatically determine the acceleration head in positive displacement pump suction piping to prevent cavitation and performance issues and includes enhanced heat transfer modelling like external convection coefficient calculation, buried pipe heat transfer, and heat tracing.
