Xylem project lauded in Manchester City community initiative

Players, fans and partners of Manchester City have given Xylem’s Safe Water project in Bangalore, India, top ranking in the fifth annual Cityzens Giving campaign.

The Cityzens Giving campaign is a global community initiative set up by the reigning Premier League champions, Manchester City.

Back in summer 2018, Xylem signed up to become Manchester City’s official water technology partner, in an agreement believed to be the first of its kind in the Premier League.

This year’s Cityzen’s Giving campaign distributed £400,000, donated by City Football Group and its partners, to six urban football projects ‘run by young people, for young people’. Fans around the world were asked to vote on how the funding should be divided between the projects. Xylem’s earned the top ranking, with 450,000 votes.

The Bangalore Safe Project is focused on improving access to safe, clean water for over 5,000 children in the area. As the most popular project it will receive £92,000 in funding.

Over the past three years, Xylem colleagues showed a strong and united effort to make water safer, more accessible and more affordable for people and communities around the world. Now we will be building on this foundation with ambitious plans for our Watermark program in 2019.”

Xylem’s corporate citizenship program, Watermark, is providing further support for the project through employee volunteers and water filtration equipment. In 2018, ~45% of Xylem’s global employee base collectively logged more than 53,000 volunteer hours as part of the Watermark progamme. Watermark also exceeded its three-year goal to log 100,000 employee volunteer hours.
