New natural gas pipeline to be built in Algeria by 2020

Sonatrach announced the El Aricha-Beni gas pipeline project, which will result in an almost 200km pipeline extending from the town El Aricha in Algeria to Beni. The project is estimated to be complete by 2020.

Algeria exported 55bcm of natural gas in 2017.

The announcement detailed that the project is part of a program to develop and strength the supply capacity of Algerian natural gas in the European market and allow the country to have operational flexibility to meet the growing needs of the national market.

"Once completed, this project will have a very positive impact on the population, which will benefit from new job positions and generate additional financial revenues for the communes," said Mustapha Guitouni, Algeria’s Energy Minister.
