KSB unveils special impeller for high pressure pumps

Pump manufacturer KSB has developed a special impeller for its Movitec multistage high-pressure pumps.

According to an announcement from the company, the new impeller ‘significantly’ improves the suction characteristics (NPSH – net positive suction head - values) of the Movitec pumps.

Apparently the pump is well suited to applications with critical inlet conditions, such as boiler feed, as well as those where the pump is required to take in water from low-lying tanks or at higher temperatures. In these conditions, a pressure drop in the intake area may cause cavitation to occur in the first pump stage, resulting in excessive wear of pump parts or motor bearings and a reduced service life for the pump.

KSB’s new impeller is offered as an alternative to the standard product. It can be used with a range of Movitec variants without the need for modifications to the outer pump casing.

The new impeller features a modified inlet diameter, vanes allowing a slightly diagonal through-flow and a newly designed stage casing, all of which are designed to improve the pump’s NPSH curve.

The Movitec range of multistage centrifugal pumps are designed for handling fluids such as water, coolants, condensate and mineral oils.
