Xylem buys infrastructure analysis company

The purchase is an effort to expand the company’s municipal water and wastewater optimisation offering.

EmNet’s core service is in ‘real time decision support systems’ (RT-DSS) that are designed to solve municipal watershed and collection system issues. The company’s approach is to use real time data analytics to improve water and wastewater management.

The acquisition was announced by Xylem 6 February, saying in a press release that the purchase was to expand its portfolio of ‘advanced infrastructure analytics solutions and capabilities’. It did not disclose the financial details of the transaction.

Xylem president and CEO, Patrick Decker, says that the addition will help the company aid customers with wastewater network and stormwater systems, which he says are “areas of growing concern.”

“Cities and utilities around the world are trying to effectively manage the challenges of aging infrastructure with limited resources. EmNet is leveraging technology to provide more effective solutions that actually improve their customers’ overall economics.”

Luis Montestruque, president and CTO of EmNet, welcomed the deal, saying that it would allow the Indiana-based company to accelerate growth and expand to a global scale.

EmNet was initially a partnership between the City of South Bend, Indiana and the University of Notre Dame. Montestruque lead the project. South Bend Mayor, Pete Buttigieg, said in a Xylem press release: “EmNet has been a shining example of city government and tech firms collaborating to find solutions... It has been a true success story for our community, and we are excited as they open this new chapter with Xylem.”

EmNet is currently working on projects throughout the US.

Xylem also added to its infrastructure assessment portfolio last December, when it bought diagnostic and analytic services company Pure Technologies.
