Hawk Measurement Systems unveils new laser sensor

Hawk Measurement Systems has introduced a new distance and level measurement sensor which incorporates laser technology.

The new OptioLaser 200 Series can be used for block chute detection, barrier detection, machine detection, stockpile monitoring and point level monitoring, according to a statement from Hawk. The device incorporates infrared 905 nanometers time-of-flight laser technology.

How it works

The OptioLaser S200 Series uses an infrared semiconductor, GaAs laser diode. A light energy wavelength of approximately 905 nanometers, with a bean of divergence of 3 milliradians, travels to the material being measured. Any solid or liquid target in its path will reflect back a certain percentage of the emitted energy. The OptioLaser calculates the distance, based on the transit time for the laser pulse to travel to the material and back.

According to Hawk, this system means the Optiolaser can measure to most within its specified range, even penetrating dust and fog.

Other key features of the OptioLaser S200:

  • Fully automated plant systems with reliable level monitoring
  • Instant warning of level and position detection
  • No need for moving parts
  • Non-contact measurement up to 5,249ft (1,600m), for natural materials
  • No need for calibration
