WEFTEC 2017 Preview: KSB

Ahead of WEFTEC 2017 (30 September – 4 October at McCormick Place in Chicago), Fluid Handling International presents an introduction to KSB, who’ll be exhibiting at Booth #4651

Who is KSB?

KSB Aktiengesellschaft is a manufacturer of pumps, valves and related services. Headquartered in Frankenthal, Germany, the company has sales and marketing organisations, manufacturing facilities and service operations across the globe.

The company’s pumps, valves and other products are used in a variety of industries, ranging from building services to water transport, wastewater treatment and power plant processes.

Wastewater pumping applications will be KSB’s focus at WEFTEC 2017. Visitors to the company’s stand will have the opportunity to take a virtual look at the next generation of waste water pumps. This will include the chance to play KSB’s new virtual reality game, Conquer the Clog, where players have to try to clog the company’s next generation submersible pump with the F-Max impeller.

KSB’s Amarex KRT submersible pump will also be on display, which has been designed to handle a range of municipal and industrial wastewater. It has a maximum flowrate of 44,380 gpm per hour and a highest head of 394 ft. With 1140 hp, KSB claims it offers the highest motor power available on the market.

The pump is available with a broad range of options. To lower electricity consumption, operators are able to select from a range of different motors, choosing the most efficient motor variant for their system’s load profile. The motor options correspond to the IE3 efficiency level for standardised motors in accordance with the IEC-60034-30. Two bi-directional mechanical seals protect the motor space against ingress of water.

In order to function in a variety of applications, four different impeller types are available for the Amarex KRT.

Cooling and lubrication of mechanical seals, even when gas-laden fluids have to be pumped, is ensured by a chamber filled with environmentally friendly oil. Dimensioned ball bearings meanwhile, support the pump’s stainless steel shaft. Special focus was placed on the design of the cable gland. Individual conductors stripped, soldered and sealed in resin ensure that the cable gland is watertight to prevent water ingress into the motor. KSB claims that the pump’s design means that even in the event of damage to the cable sheath or the insulation, the pump is protected against short circuits.

On 30 September the water industry will head to Chicago, Illinois’ McCormick Place for WEFTEC 2017.

The US’ Water Environment Federation’s Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference (WEFTEC) has grown into a world leading event for developments in water quality, research, solutions, knowledge development and cutting edge technologies. With thousands of water and wastewater professionals attending from around the world, WEFTEC 2017 will host a programme of technical sessions and workshops alongside an exhibition of some of the biggest companies involved in water and wastewater.

In the run up to the event, Fluid Handling International will be profiling some of the major exhibitors, and the products they’ll be showcasing.
