Parker Bestobell cryogenic valves receive KR type approval

Parker Bestobell has secured full type approval from the Korean Register of Shipping (KR) for its range of cryogenic globe and check valves for use on board ships.

The company’s valves are widely used on LNG carriers, floating storage regasification units (FSRUs), and LNG fuel gas systems.

The type approval has come on the back of a number of projects that the company is involved in for KR-registered ships, and in recognition of the increasing use of KR to class LNG carriers constructed in Asian shipyards.

“South Korea is a very important market for us, due to its large shipbuilding industry and we have seen an increase in vessels being classed by KR. Securing type approval with them will enable us to continue to develop both our industrial and marine business in this region,” Duncan Gaskin, market development manager at Parker Bestobell said.

Having type approval enables Parker Bestobell to carry out cryogenic testing in line with KR requirements and witnessed by one of its class surveyors to make sure that the valves are able to perform in cryogenic conditions without leakage.

In addition to this, the company also carries 100% ambient testing for all of its cryogenic globe and check valves, in order to ensure that they are completely leakage-free.
