British Pump Manufacturers’ Association clarifies BIM conformity procedure

British Pump Manufacturers’ Association (BPMA) has provided clarification to the pump industry on conformity to Building Information Modelling Level 2 (BIM)

By helping develop a product data template (PDT) for pump manufacturers, BPMA aims to make it easier for them fulfil their commitments to BIM, on which no uniform standard has been established.

The purpose of the PDT, available as a simple Excel file, is to standardise the data required for a product category under BIM.

By completing the PDT for their products, manufacturers can effectively produce an ‘electronic catalogue’, directly usable in Level 2 BIM.

As such, it is believed that this PDT for pumps will meet the requirements of the Building Services and Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health sectors across the European Union.

BPMA sought the help and guidance of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) to develop the PDT, and their initial meeting let to further meetings across Europe.

CIBSE retains ownership of the master template of the PDT in order to prevent commercial interest in its curation.

All completed PDTs will be owned by the respective pump manufacturers.

More information and the PDT are available at http://europump.net/publications/guides-and-guidelines.
