Cheniere LNG facilities largely unscathed by Hurricane Harvey

Houston, Texas based natural gas exporter Cheniere Energy has reported only minor damage from Hurricane Harvey to its LNG facilities on the Gulf of Mexico coast, reports Reuters.

According to the company, its Corpus Christi Texas LNG facility reported only “minor cosmetic impacts” from the tropical storm which has been devastating the state. Meanwhile, Cheniere reports no interruption of production at its Sabine Pass facility in Louisiana.

Reuters reports that the company has activated its emergency office location in Dallas to support its gas supply, trading division and other essential functions to ensure continuing production of LNG at Sabine Pass.

The most powerful Hurricane to hit Texas in over half a century, Harvey first hit land on 25 August. It continues to bombard Texas’ Gulf of Mexico coast where it’s forecast to remain for several more days, in some places dropping a year’s worth of rain in just a week.

Cheniere conducted initial Harvey impact assessments on Sunday. The company has pledged to donate $1 million to the Red Cross’ Harvey relief efforts.
