All about valves? Metso focusing on performance and safety in Dusseldorf and Bergamo

Those attending the Managing Aging Plants Conference and Expo in Dusseldorf, Germany, would have seen Metso going to great lengths to highlight ways to maximise valve performance.

Experts from the company presented a range of flow control performance solutions suited to the aging plants which constituted the focus of the conference.

"Valves are key elements in any plant's flow control and their reliability can be affected by issues such as wearing, stress and shocks. Plant reliability improvement programs should always start with a professional valve performance review," Jarkko Räty, Service Solutions Manager at Metso, explains in a statement.

Metso representatives at the conference presented their Intelligent Maintenance and Shutdown services, which they claim meet the needs of aging plants by helping to improve process safety and performance, and optimising valve maintenance.

Räty presented a paper at the conference titled “Plant reliability improvements by valve performance review”. The presentation reviewed ways of maximising device performance, how to recognise valves which need to be added to the shutdown list, and how to improve plant performance reliability with valve performance measures.

At the industrial valve summit in Italy, Metso will focus on how to choose the correct valve solution to ensure plant safety in the oil and gas industry. As well as displaying their products, such as ESD (emergency shutdown) valves, on/off valves and control valves, Ville Kähkönen, Oil and Gas Business Manager at Metso, is presenting a paper on choosing the right valves for ESD.

Kähkönen's presentation introduces a procedure that should be followed to ensure that the final element has the capability to work in emergency situations. Another topic of his presentation is how functional safety calculations can be used to maintain safety. The presentation also discusses the background of certification and looks at how these certifications should be used with safety valves.
