1,700 miles of water pipes to be replaced in Wales

A £1 million (€1.2 million) project to replace over 1,700 miles (2700 km) of water pipes in Dolgellau, Wales, has just started.

The investment scheme, launched by Welsh Water, aims to ensure the people of Dolgellau and its surrounding area have access to clean, high quality drinking water for “decades to come”, according to the Cambrian News.

The project to replace a total of 1,730 miles worth of water pipes in the area is underway and should be completed by the end of September 2017.

“Our £1m investment in Dolgellau is essential to ensure we continue to provide customers in the area with a first-class drinking water supply.” Welsh Water capital delivery manager for north Wales, Aled Morgan, told the Cambrian News.

Inevitably, a project of this size is going to cause disruption in the area, leading to traffic diversions while the work takes place. While stressing the importance of the project, Morgan also pledged to keep disruption to a minimum.

“We do of course appreciate that work such as this can cause some disruption but we will ensure that this is kept to an absolute minimum.”

A £23,000 project by Wales and West Utilities will see 160 miles of gas pipes replaced in the Dolgellau area, and will coincide with the water pipe replacement project.
