Free online PEI calculator for Department of Energy regulated pumps

The global authority on pumps and pumping systems, the Hydraulic Institute, has launched a new Pump Energy Index (PEI) calculator. The free online calculator is available from the Hydraulic Institute’s website.

Engineers can use the new PEI calculator to help check that they’re meeting the 2020 compliance and labelling requirements outlined by the Department of Energy (DOE) pump energy conservation standard.

Meeting the DOE’s standard for pump efficiency can be a complex process. The data required to determine a pump’s PEI can vary depending on its configuration. The Hydraulic Institute developed its new PEI calculator to help manufacturers understand the complex test procedure and calculate PEI in a consistent manner.

The DOE’s 2020 compliance and labelling requirements apply energy conservation standards to a range of clean water and circulator pumps, and many others.

As well as being available from the Hydraulic Institute’s website, the new PEI calculator is also available as an excel calculator.
