Work progresses slowly to fix Tennessee fuel line leak

Colonial Pipeline Co., a US fuel transfer company, is working to respond to a petrol leak on its Line 19, a 12” line near Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The Colonial line 19, which delivers petrol into the Nashville market, sprung a leak that was reported over the last weekend.

Crews are working to drain, remove, and replace the affected segment of piping, but Colonial says progress is slow due to the terrain and the proximity of the leak to Shoal Creek river.

These factors have necessitated a temporary diversion of the creek to allow for safe and effective excavation.

Local, state, and federal authorities, including the US Environmental Protection Agency, are providing oversight and assistance.

Colonial says it continues to monitor the air as well as the water in Shoal Creek and the Tennessee River.
