California water treatment plant receives $2.2m in funding to solve quality issues

The California State Water Resources Control Board (WRCB) has approved $2.2 million (€2m) of funding to reconfigure the Cascade Shores wastewater treatment operation.

WRCB hopes that the provided resources help eliminate two long-standing water quality treatment issues and stabilise and substantially reduce rate payers’ costs over time.

The Cascade Shores plant, because of its size and location, has experienced a variety of challenges during the past few years, most notably a landslide in 2006 that required expensive repairs and continuously changing state wastewater treatment standards that have  required costly plant modifications spread among a small base of rate payers.

District 1 supervisor Nate Beason described the action as a “positive outcome that will allow us improve water quality and profoundly reduce costs.”
