Energy Recovery to supply pressure exchanger technology to African desalination projects

Energy Recovery, a US-based pressure energy technology developer for industrial fluid flows, has been awarded $2.4 million worth of contracts to supply its PX pressure exchanger technology for three desalination projects in North Africa.

Two of the orders will ship in the second quarter of 2016 and the third is expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Energy Recovery will supply its pressure exchanger devices and pumps to the plants, which will produce up to 95,000m3 of water per day.

The company estimates the devices will reduce the power consumption for all three projects by 10.5MW, saving over 90GWh of energy per year, and help them avoid 54,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

Energy Recovery's president and CEO Joel Gay said: "We are extremely proud of our company's work in North Africa, where we continue to deploy installations of our pressure exchanger to help bolster critical water resources in the region."
